"Many people face challenges with obtaining the ideal amount of calcium in their diet to support healthy teeth, gums and bones, because of dairy intolerance. We are happy to provide a source of dairy-free calcium to meet your needs.

Traditional Foods Market sets high standards in sourcing products only from farms and fisheries that are organic, and keeping balance with nature. We value the lives of all the animals and give deep reverence for the ones that give their lives to nourish our bodies.

Whole Bone Calcium is simply vacuum dried, and powdered. Our powder does not contain magnesium stearate. The whole bone goes by different names: MCHA, ossein hydroxyapatite, MCHC, or microcrystalline hydroxyapatite calcium. Hydroxyapatite is the microcrystalline mineral structure that is the primary constituent of mineralized bone. Microcrystalline hydroxyapatite is full of trace minerals and contains protein from bone. Unlike regular calcium supplements, Whole Bone Fish Calcium is a source of naturally occurring growth factors and cytokines.

  • Whole Fish Bone Calcium is totally natural.
  • Whole Fish Bone Calcium delivers all the elements present in healthy bone tissue, in their correct physiological ratios.*
  • Whole Bone Calcium contains at least 22 percent bone protein, including Type I Collagen and growth factors to enhance absorption and promote bone formation.
  • Whole Bone Fish Calcium contains a broad range of trace minerals as well as glycosaminoglycans found naturally in the bone matrix and is essential for healthy bone composition.*
  • Whole Fish Bone Calcium is made from only fish caught with responsible fishing practices that meet New Zealand fishing quota management.
  • Whole Fish Bone Calcium is produced using a low temperature process to retain more bioactive components.

Calcium is essential for strengthening bones and teeth, regulating muscle function, blood clotting, transmission of nervous system messages, and enzyme function.*

Directions for Whole Bone Calcium

For those who are not consuming any dairy, who have limited calcium in their diet, or who need extra support with bone minerals, consume 1/2-1 teaspoons daily with vitamin D. Each teaspoon of whole bone calcium contains 1,440mg of calcium from animal bone in addition to the health bone matrix.

For those who consume dairy regularly, but who want to ensure they have strong teeth and bones, children and adults 1/3 to ½ teaspoon per day with vitamin D.

Mixing with Vitamin D: We recommend you consume this product in the context of a diet that contains fat-soluble vitamin D. The preferred source of this is Green Pasture’s fermented cod liver oil or Royal Blend. Taking the calcium within 15 minutes of taking cod liver oil is a good idea. For those who cannot take cod liver oil, I recommend the Green Pasture's High Vitamin Butter oil, butter, and / or bone marrow to be used with the bone meal to ensure for optimal absorption and utilization.

Magensium: People who regularly consume this bone calcium may benefit from extra magnesium. Absorbing magnesium through the skin with magnesium oil or bath flakes is our recommendation for this.

How to consume: You can place the powder under your tongue or in your mouth and let it dissolve. It can also be mixed with small amounts of water, kefir, smoothies or so forth. It does not have a strong taste. The bone is hard and cannot really be chewed hard, it can be gently chewed. You must either dissolve it in your saliva or swallow it with other food.

For optimal use: have some bone marrow occasionally for a synergistic effect.

Bones as a Traditional Food
Stories suggest traditional cultures consumed bones for their calcium. In Sweden, herring was roasted over the fire and eaten head to tail. In Cameroon, native people grill fish bones and eat them like potato chips. In the far North, the Inuit ferment fish heads and consume them entirely.

Daily Requirements for Calcium
The minimum calcium intake should meet the government’s Recommended Dietary Allowance.
For adults this amount is 1 gram.
For growing children ages 9-18, the amount is 1.3 grams of calcium per day.
For children 4-8 years old 1 gram per day.

Weston Price found traditional cultures largely free from disease and tooth decay were consuming more calcium than the RDA. For the:

  • Outer Hebrides 1.76 grams per day,
  • the traditional people in the Swiss Alps 1.76 grams per day,
  • the natives of Canada’s far North 2.3 grams per day,
  • and Eskimos 2.14 grams per day.

“To build the bone that supports the teeth, bone meal is unexcelled… If prepared without pasteurization heat, the bone cell determinants will still be present, as well as some of the enzymes that are peculiar to raw food.” Royal Lee, DDS (Bone Meal—Nutritional Source of Calcium)

Calcium From Food

From the chart below you can see the challenge many people face in reaching the RDA of calcium, let alone the amoun of calcium of which our ancestors where accustom to. People who are not big cheese or dairy consumers, have a challenge to reach an ideal level of dietary calcium.

Calcium Protects against Phytic Acid and Oxalic Acid Found in Food

Phytic acid and oxalic acid, found naturally in some plants, bind to calcium and can inhibit its absorption. Foods with high levels of oxalic acid include spinach, collard greens, sweet potatoes, rhubarb, and beans. Among the foods high in phytic acid are fiber-containing whole-grain products and wheat bran, beans, seeds, nuts, and soy.

Microcrystalline Hydroxyapatite Doasge for Diets that DO NOT include Calcium

It has now be reported by Kaayla Daniel author of the upcoming Nourishing Broth that bone broth contains little to no calcium content. In examining nutrition analysis of foods I suspected this was the case but I could not find confirmation of this information. In Cure Tooth Decay I explicitly encouraged people to consume calcium from other sources besides bone broth. Broth is a great and nourishing food, it just isn't calcium rich as the calcium resides in the structures / bones.

It is impossible to determine the exact amount of whole bone calcium your child needs to find balance and adequate intake. My strong recommendation is to find a health practitioner like a naturopath who can test and monitor your dosage levels. Please make sure you or your child is consuming a vitamin D rich food such as blue ice royal blend, fermented cod liver oil, or high vitamin butter oil.

That being said, this is a range to work with based on the RDA.

If the diet contains around zero calcium from any sources:
1/4 teaspoon per day for children ages 4-8 years old.
1/2 of a teaspoon per day for growing children ages 9-18 years old.

Again, these are based on general ranges. Each child is unique. Their deficiency and needs are unique. The amounts they need will very based on height, weight, exercise level, climate and other foods in their diet. Some children may need higher dosages if they are extremely deficient in bone building calcium, the best way to determine the accurate dose is with some type of biofeedback type of test such as: muscle testing, applied kinesiology, cranial sacral testing or other energetic tests.

Bone Meal as a Dietary Fortifier to Increase Tooth and Bone Density For Diets That DO Include Adequate Calcium

The best results in using bone meal to build strong teeth and bones in children are obtained by consuming bone meal during pregnancy and giving it to the child before their permanent teeth erupt—the reason being that the density of the tooth makes a large difference on whether teeth decay.

Whole Bone Calcium Dosages for Diets containing adequate calcium.
When the child starts eating 1/6 to ¼ teaspoon daily until the age of two.
Children and adults 1/3 to ½ teaspoon per day.

Note:
For best results, consume with vitamin D regularly, and bone marrow on occasion.

“When the rules above have been strictly observed it has been proved by more than twenty years' experience that both the deciduous teeth and the permanent teeth will be completely free from dental caries. Thus the main feature of the bone-meal method is that it applies to growing teeth, not to full-grown teeth.” Alfred Aslander – Royal Institute of Technology / Sweden

Whole Bone Calcium vs. Other Calcium Supplements

Whole bone calcium is better utilized by the body than regular calcium supplements.

A clinical trial comparing ossein-hydroxyapatite (whole bone extract) to calcium carbonate showed that ossein-hydroxyapatite was significantly more effective than the calcium carbonate at increasing bone mineral density—even though calcium carbonate is considered the more soluble of the two. Source: The research article Comparison of the treatment effects of ossein-hydroxyapatite compound and calcium carbonate in osteoporotic females Dr P. Rüegsegger, A. Keller, M. A. (Osteoporosis International 1995, Volume 5)

Another study found that hydroxyapatite improved cortical bone thickness in a group of women by 11.6 percent, compared to an improvement of only 7 percent with those who only supplemented with caclium gluconate. How Bone Meal is Processed

The bone is cleaned, low temperature dried, and ground up in a way to maintain bioactive components. The cold temperature processing retains many of the bioactive components, which is what counts. The advantage is that while completely raw bone powder is dangerous to inhale, Our low temperature dried bone is perfectly safe.
