"Your Body Needs Natural Vitamin C"
By: Andie Dill
Hello everyone, and welcome to the Traditional Foods Market Blog! Your health is important to us, and it is our desire that our products will “sustain and nourish your family!” Each month we publish a blog post, highlighting one of our products and its nutritional, or just overall health benefit. In addition, you may find a recipe, or some other fun way to incorporate each product into your daily routine.
This month we are featuring our “Organic High Vitamin ‘C’ Powder!”
Famous dentist, Royal Lee, believed, “Vitamin C is the most important of the vitamins, and is the most difficult to get. It is oxidized so easily that it disappears in storage of citrus fruits and vegetables.” Humans need vitamin C every day. Vitamin C is a powerful water-soluble antioxidant that the body can use to detoxify itself. It helps to neutralize free radicals, which can damage and hurt healthy cells and DNA. While Vitamin C is mainly found in the skin, it is an essential antioxidant for the liver to process and eliminate accumulated toxins. When Vitamin C is to low, energy is not available for proper detoxification to take place and the liver becomes congested and unable to detoxify the body, as it should. Because Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin, it is not stored in the body in any way. Therefore, it is critical to get enough from diet and supplementation each day.

Most vitamin C supplements on the market today are synthetic forms of vitamin C, such as ascorbic acid or citric acid. Where there are some medicinal times that synthetic vitamin C can be helpful, if used regularly, it is poorly absorbed in your body, it can actually do more harm than good by taxing your organs over time. Not to mention most of it is eliminated through urine. True Vitamin C, like our High Vitamin C Powder, is in it's natural form, and our bodies know exactly what to do with it, for example:
- Form an important protein used to make skin, tendons, ligaments, and blood vessels
- Heal wounds and form reparative scar tissue
- Repair and maintain cartilage, bones, and teeth
The “High Vitamin C Powder” sold by Traditional Foods market is made entirely from acerola cherries, grown organically by the largest organic and biodynamic grower in Brazil. Some fun facts about acerola cherries include:
- Help manage diabetes by slowing the release of sugar into the bloodstream.
- Acerola cherries have anti-cancer potential because of their diverse mix of antioxidants, including carotenoids and bioflavonoids, both of which neutralize the effects of free radicals in the body.
- Anti-aging properties through the protection of eye health and boosting the health of your skin.
- Improve immune system strength and metabolism rate.
- Aid in digestion and cardiovascular health.
One of the bonuses of our High Vitamin C Powder, is that it comes in powder form, making it very versatile and easy to incorporate into different recipes such as the one below for homemade chewable gummies!

Real Vitamin “C” Gummies

4 tablespoons plain gelatin
2 tablespoons raw, unfiltered honey

See you next month!
